How is AI transforming storytelling?5/9/2025 We all love a good story. The wild memory a friend shares over dinner. A thrilling book or movie on a night in.
Yet how many people would consider themselves a good storyteller? Or simply - a storyteller? The thing is, we all have experiences and ideas worth sharing. And with AI as a collaborator, we can reimagine how we tell the narratives within and around us. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with 30+ AI products shaping the future of storytelling. Here are some notes & themes I’m excited about: ▶ We can all be creative storytellers. Anyone can rapidly bring a story to life, with plenty of AI tools available at every phase: from brainstorming with Sudowrite, to storyboarding in LTX Studio, to producing with various video generators (notably, Moonvalley and Asteria are developing a generative video model built entirely on fully-licensed data). But what’s creatively interesting is being able to connect the dots among the many tools and outputs. Flora, for example, integrates popular text, image, and video AI models into one collaborative canvas. ▶ The hero’s journey is now your journey. AI not only accelerates - it personalizes. Magic Story can make any child the star of their own book. ElevenLabs can clone your voice to narrate over any text. And interactive experiences like Sekai evolve narratives in real-time based on your responses. Personalization can be empowering, but I wonder - if we’re always the hero, what does that do to our sense of self over time? ▶ Storytelling is not a monologue - it’s a shared experience. Storytelling becomes world building. In Portal AI, you can add scenes to other people’s videos to co-create a shared narrative. In Mythia, your decisions on the storyline ripple outward, influencing the paths of others. Ultimately though, worlds aren’t just shared 2D platforms. They are immersive 3D spaces. To take storytelling even further, we’ll need to evolve from large language models to large world models. World Labs, for example, is developing spatially intelligent models to perceive, generate, and interact with the 3D world. – As more people use AI tools in today’s “vibe-creator-economy”, we’ll see a flood of more content. Which stories will resonate and rise above the noise? But maybe that’s not the only question. Creating isn’t always about reach or recognition. Sometimes it’s simply about expressing ourselves to make sense of our own experiences. And by understanding ourselves better, we can start to understand each other better too.
